Guwahati (Assam) [India], October 26: At 29, Jagadguru Nigrahacharya Shri Bhagavatananda Guru has already worn many hats. He has been a child prodigy, a Sanskrit scholar, the author of 22 books, an outspoken speaker and the face of a long-running video series. In March this year, he took on his most significant role yet, as Jagadguru of the Nigraha Sampradaya, a Shakta lineage seated at Kamrupa Kamakhya in Assam.
He was consecrated during an Amba Yajna in mid-March 2026 by his guru, Swami Amritananda Saraswati. Swami Amritananda's Tantric lineage goes back to Shri Bama Khepa of Tarapith and Swami Nigamananda Saraswati Paramhansa of the Saraswat Math at Kokilamukh. The Sampradaya worships Kubjika Nigraheshwari Devi as its supreme deity.
A Prodigy From Bokaro
Shri Bhagavatananda Guru was born on 20 March 1997 in Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand, into a Shakadwipiya Brahmin family. He is the eldest son of social activist Acharya Shri Shankar Das Guru and Gyanmati Devi. According to his author biography, he had memorised more than a thousand Sanskrit verses and the entire Bhagavad Gita by the age of four. One of his earliest recorded interviews was filmed when he was just six.
Avoiding the culture of celebrity worship, Jagadguru Nigrahacharya made a courageous move by announcing that politicians and judicial authorities are not permitted to share the stage with him at his religious discourses. In 2012, while still a teenager, he founded Aryavart Sanatan Vahini 'Dharmraj', a Hindu organisation that he continues to lead.
The Scholar Who Writes Back
His writing career began in 2015 with A Brief History of the Immortals of Non-Hindu Civilizations. Since then he has published 22 books with Notion Press, ranging from Sanskrit commentaries and hymns to studies of scripture and mythology, all listed on his Notion Press author page.
Two of those books came out of a public scriptural debate with Jagadguru Rambhadracharya of Tulsi Peeth. Rambhadracharya had described the Uttar Kanda of the Ramayana as a later addition. Shri Bhagavatananda Guru responded with Uttarkand Prasang evam Sanyasadhikar Vimarsh, arguing that it is an authentic part of the epic. Rambhadracharya answered with a book of his own, and Shri Bhagavatananda Guru replied with a second volume, Moorakh Hriday Na Chet. His followers say he was the first person to write two book-length rebuttals to the Tulsi Peeth head.
He has taken firm public positions on other matters too. According to his office, he was the first to issue a letter calling for a boycott of Jyotishpeeth Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati over a controversy concerning the Shakadwipiya Brahmin community. In 2024, his public exchange with Dhirendra Krishna Shastri of Bageshwar Dham was covered by ABP News.
Mlechchha Raaj
Many younger viewers know him best through Mlechchha Raaj, a documentary-style video series in which he examines what he presents as hidden conspiracies in history, religion and society. The series has run to more than 50 episodes on his YouTube channel, Dark Secrets by Swami Nigrahacharya, and new seasons are still being made.

The Book That Comes Next
His next work is closer to the heart of his new role. Nigraha Praveshika, now in its final draft, is a detailed study of the Nigraha Sampradaya and its philosophy, written in Sanskrit with a Hindi translation. According to the Sampradaya, it draws on more than 1,600 rare and authentic scriptures and will serve as the core text for its followers. The book is expected to be released after Holi 2027, with Notion Press, Chennai, likely to publish it.
"Every role I have taken on has come back to one purpose, to defend the scriptures and to keep their knowledge alive. Nigraha Praveshika is part of that same work," said Jagadguru Nigrahacharya Shri Bhagavatananda Guru.
He shares his discourses and updates on Facebook (@bhagavatananda) and Instagram (@swaminigrahacharya).
